2023 Vermont Watercolor Workshop with Ned Reade

Dates:  July 18, 19, & 20, 2023 (Tuesday through Thursday)

Times:  9 am- 3:30 pm each day ON LOCATION

Group Critiques held each day at 3 pm.

Cost:  $175 for the three day workshop or $70 per day

Additional supplies will be needed, a list will be provided.

Chasing the Light!

Watercolor is known as an especially spontaneous and carefree medium that brings pleasure to viewers and painters alike. As plein air painters, we feel as though we’re trying to “catch” the light, the joy and challenge of this medium! Ned Reade will show you a step-by-step process that will help ensure success without losing spontaneity.

On location Ned first looks for a scene that “speaks” to him and offers what he wants to convey. He starts with a value sketch, moves from loose washes to finding forms, and finishes with accents that pull the painting together.

Ned has taught watercolor workshops on Martha’s Vineyard Island for over 25 years and is excited to exchange harbors, buoys and boats for the mountains, fields, and farms of Vermont! Each day starts with a demonstration and ends with a group critique at the end of the afternoon. Participants spend the intervening hours working on their own paintings.

The workshop is open to painters from beginners to seasoned artists. Some familiarity with working outside on location is helpful but not required. Ned will provide a full “suggested materials” list as well.

Locations will include Rockwell’s Retreat (Norman Rockwell’s former home and studio on the Green in West Arlington) and a village scene, and a picturesque town green. There may be “special” events in the evenings.
