SerVermont - Arlington Common VISTA

The Arlington Common is a community hub that enhances and strengthens the Arlington area through creativity, wellness, fitness, and education. Nestled between the beautiful Battenkill River and the Green Mountain Range, Arlington is the quintessential Vermont village close to Manchester and Bennington. Through communication and outreach efforts, the VISTA member will connect and expand our partnerships with other local organizations and communities that The Common serves by building relationships, designing curricula, and piloting programs. The VISTA member will partner with the Battenkill Valley Health Center, a federally-funded health clinic, Arlington High School, whose students seek a non-traditional educational path, and other non-profit organizations to break the cycle of poverty.

The VISTA member will:

  • Work alongside staff/the board, to help develop an internship program for students interested in employment training.

  • Help to develop a wellness/fitness program for those who need but don’t have access to such opportunities.

  • Assist in developing a sustainable plan for various local food insecurity and poverty alleviation organizations.

  • Strengthen a volunteer system to build community and connection throughout Arlington.

Summer Fitness and Pickleball Coordinator

Looking for a friendly, helpful, detail-oriented individual to manage our fitness program. We have a small gym, 14 weekly classes, and two outdoor pickleball courts. When on-site (roughly 10 hours/week), this person will be greeting members and helping them with any membership issues. Comfort with email and computers is necessary. During downtime at the front desk, you will be expected to answer any fitness-related questions via email, post playtimes and clinics for pickleball (seasonal), address any building or equipment maintenance issues, and manage memberships. The ideal candidate would have a fitness background and be able to assist those with questions about using the equipment. A friendly and patient attitude is a must, as there will be frequent interaction with members. The other 2 “off-site” hours are reserved for a daily check-in with email to address last-minute class cancellations and membership issues. 

This position runs from mid-May until early September.
